"I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START"
giphy.gif

Perfect. That’s exactly where you start.

Creativity isn’t a straight path — it’s a playground.

And that’s where I want to take you now:

To experiment.

To try something you don’t know how to do.

To free yourself, even just for a moment, from the fear of “not being good enough.”

DO THINGS YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO DO

It may sound strange, but sometimes we’re so used to our own style, our tools, our way of doing things, that we close ourselves off without even realizing it.

Try something that doesn’t come naturally. In fact, go for the thing that makes you say “that’s not for me.”

Here are some examples:

• If you draw, try writing

• If you write prose, try poetry
•If you always work digitally, go back to paper
• If you make music, try photography

• If you paint with watercolors, try collage

The goal isn’t to become an expert at something new — or even to do it well. The goal is to break the usual pattern.

Now that you’re in this mindset, here’s an exercise to explore the many possibilities of this creative game, which we’ll call:

DON’T LET THEM KNOW YOUR NEXT MOVE

Why that title? Because this time, you get to change the rules.
Be unpredictable:

• Draw with your non-dominant hand

• Invert the colors

• Change the perspective

• Distort the image

• Add words

• Illustrate a song

Mix things up, make mistakes, get messy. The key is play, not performance.

In this video I made, I show an idea on how to play with made-up rules.

WHY IT WORKS

Because the brain loves novelty.

It loves short circuits, unexpected associations, detours.

And because if you train yourself to experiment even when you feel lost,

you’ll learn to trust the process.

In the end, you don’t need to know where you’re going in order to start moving.

Experimenting is like opening a window when a room has been closed

for too long.

Let in some fresh air, even if you don’t know what to do. Even if you don’t have a big idea today.
